MLK Campout

The Ocala Jeep Club of Florida

It was another typical MLK Weekend, as the weather goes. If you were lucky enough to arrive on Thursday, the weather was breezy and near 80 degrees with a few scattered showers. On Friday we had a few more showers and by Saturday morning campfires were a welcome sight, we were back to our normal MLK weather….

Our Friday night entertainment consisted of watching a large Diesel Motor Home pulling a trailer & Jeep get severely stuck in the roadway and nearly tipping over. The RV fell into a very large deep hole in the roadway that was dug earlier in the day by several youngsters. After a couple of attempts and with the eager help of others, the RV was rescued, yet another example of wheelers working together.

The FL4WDA Meeting was held on Saturday morning this year, lasting 1-1/2 hrs with a full house as many Clubs across the state were represented. Also in attendance were two (2) Forestry representatives as well as Carla Boucher, Attorney representing UFWDA who was quite informative. Thank you Dawn for stepping up and taking the minutes! After the meeting, a large group headed to Rodman for trash pick-up while other unorganized groups took off in all directions to wheel. Don’t forget to watch out for those slow low flying birds!

Directly following the Saturday night Dinner was the Raffle, sponsored by FL4WDA along with the donations of other clubs made for another successful Raffle with tons of items. A surprise to all was that 2 WARN 9000 Winches were given away! Of the 2 winners, one was our own John Warner. Immediately following the Raffle, everyone made a mad dash inside their campers or next to a campfire!

Again, special thanks to John W, Ernie, Steve F and all who helped with the cooking, another fine job at the Monster Grill as well as those who provided the rest of the fixins’ & side dishes. The large gooseneck wheel trailer made for a great buffet table with a great variety of good food feeding the large mass of cold and hungry campers!
